Wenecja zdaje się być miastem doskonałym. Karminowe ściany kamienic nad Kanałem Grande stanowią doskonały kontrapunkt dla błękitno – zielonej wody; przymknięte w południe okiennice starych domów idealnie współgrają z wąskimi ulicami między nimi. Miasto tego typu wciąga w swoje zakamarki tych, którzy nie boją się zagubić w ślepych uliczkach. Perfekcja świata przedstawionego w kinie przejawia się w chwilach, gdy widz zatraca się w obrazie. Rezygnuje z intelektualnej kontroli nad narracją. Czuje dreszcze, kiedy bohaterka filmu mija na ulicy swojego sobowtóra. Zmaga się ze strachem, gdy ona ucieka przed samą sobą. Wraz z nią przygryza wargi i odczuwa niemal fizyczny ból, kiedy patrzy na jej poranione stopy. W swoim najnowszym filmie – „Czarny Łabędź” (2010), Darren Aronofsky rozbija świat przedstawiony na dwie warstwy – realną i wyobrażeniową, znów bawiąc się w grę, do której przyzwyczaił swoich widzów w poprzednich produkcjach.
